Value Stream Mapping

In plain English

A Value Stream Map is a simple picture of the entire journey — from the moment a job starts to the moment the customer gets it — showing every step and, crucially, all the waiting in between. It reveals how little of the total time is actually spent adding value.

The parts, simply

Current state
Map how it really works today, waiting and all.
Spot the waiting
The gaps between steps are where lead time hides.
Future state
Design a shorter, smoother flow — then close the gap.

Why it matters to your business

In most operations, the actual work takes minutes but the order takes days — the rest is waiting. Seeing the whole journey shows you where the days disappear, which is usually nowhere near where people think.

Everyday example

A joinery order

Real cutting, assembly and finishing might total 6 hours of work — but the order takes 9 days, because it waits in queues between steps. The map makes those queues obvious, and shrinking them cuts the lead time far more than working faster ever could.

How SenseFlow does this for you

SenseFlow builds the current-state picture from your layout and process, then proposes a future state with a shorter lead time and the savings attached.
